Haugabreen glacier walk

A blue ice adventure for the whole family!

About the tour

Hagabreen Glacier is an accessible glacier in Southern Norway and can be enjoyed by both the younger and older family members. It lays in the western part of the Jostedal Glacier Nationalpark not far from the E39 (the Western Norway Highway). On the way to the glacier your guide will tell you how the glacier has formed the landscape we live in and how the locals have traditionally used the glacier. You should have some experience with trail hiking and a minimum of physical condition for this hike.

We adapt each encounter with the glistening blue ice crystals according to the group’s ambitions and abilities. The goal is to give you an experience you will never forget!

You will need:

    • A small backpack (20-40L)
    • Mountain boots.
    • Trainers will not do the job. The soles should be thick and have a good grip, be  hard-wearing, waterproof and have a good ankle support! N.B! If you do not have the propriate shoes, the guide can deny you to go on to the ice!

    • Warm clothing for a day in the ice! (layers of wool will keep you warm)
    • Insulated jacket like down, fleece or primaloft
    • Wind/waterproof clothing
    • Gloves/mittens
    • Long pants.
    • Lunch and a warm beverage
    • Sunglasses!

We will provide safety equipement, iceaxe and crampons for you, but you need room in your backpack to carry it up to the glacier.

Check the weather report the day before and dress accordingly!
No dogs allowed on the glacier.

    Accomodation
There are plenty of nice places to stay in Jølster. You can choose from several hotels like Thon Partner Hotel Jølster and campsites nearby. Jølster Tourist Information (Esso Skei) has a good overview of accomodations.

    Food
It will be possible to buy food in nearby supermarkets the day before. You must bring your own lunch.

It is easy to get to Jølster by public transport from major cities such as Bergen, Trondheim and Oslo. Breogfjell has a mini van that takes 7 people from the meeting point to the start of the tour in Haugadalen, thats about a 10 minute drive. However, if the group is full someone in the group will have to drive their private car to the starting point. This will be organised in the morning.
