Trad Climbing Course in Hemsedal

Day 1: Course opening and presentation of guides and participants. Practical aspects of the course. Equipment overview and adjustment. This day we stay at the climbing area Kvam in Sogndal. This climbing area has over 250 climbing routes and is one of Norway’s largest. We familiarize ourselves with the use of equipment and knots. We become proficient in safety techniques, top-rope climbing, and rappelling. Lots of climbing awaits! Theory session: Review of today’s topics and experiences, preparation for the next day.

Day 2: This day we are again at the climbing area Kvam in Sogndal. We focus more on protection devices, belay stances, and rappel anchors. After lunch, we discuss rope team routines when climbing routes over multiple rope lengths. Theory session: About rope team climbing, lead climbing, and belay stances. We plan the next trip we will have the next day, map and compass, alpine hazards.

Day 3: Climbing over multiple rope lengths. Here we plan a climbing trip over several rope lengths in the Hurrungane mountains. We bring what we learned on day 1 and 2 up into the mountains. Important aspects will be trip planning, alpine hazards, route choices up and down. Summary and conclusion.

This is the objective

The goal of the course is to provide you with an introduction to outdoor climbing. The course requires no prior knowledge and will be tailored to your abilities as much as possible. After the course, you should be able to climb safely at sport climbing areas and have an understanding of the methods used for climbing over multiple rope lengths in the mountains.
