Alpine skitouring week in Stryn

If you would like to combine skiing with other activities like surfing, trailbiking, spa, fishing, climbing, you will have plenty of alternatives in Nordfjord – the All In One Fjord destination! Breogfjell MG are the local provider of qualified IVBV/UIAGM/IFMGA mountainguides for your skitouring holiday

Stryn in winter

Nordfjord is the most complete destination in Norway both in winter and summer. This is the spot where you have both high standard accommodation and also more reasonable alternatives. This is where you can ski in the morning, cycle around lunch and wavesurf before you go to bed. In winter and early summer the small local skilifts and the many mountain roads gives easy access into the mountains. The steepest cable car in the world – the Loen Skylift brings you directly to Mt.Hoven straight from the fjord!

From April to July, Stryn provides the best late season snow (maybe in the world?). And the long lasting season is proven by the Stryn Summerski chairlift which opens in end of May.

We start the skitouring from the valley/fjord, from the lifts or from one of the many mountain roads around.

DAY 0 – Saturday (arrival day)
Arrival day in Stryn. After arrival this is a perfect day to look around in Stryn and Loen, enjoy a better meal at one of the local restaurants, unpack all your equipement and relax after a long journey to get to Norway.

DAY 1 – Sunday
Your local mountainguide will meet you after breakfast at your hotel or hut. The guide will inform about the current conditions in the mountains and take you out on a shorter hike (around 3-400 v.m. ascent). If the snow conditions are good, this tour leads to a longer descent (up to 1400 v.m. descent). Although short, we visit some of the finest peaks around Stryn which offers beautiful skiing.

DAY 2 – Monday
We plan for a longer hike to a peak that provides beautiful view of the Stryn valley. The descent will be chosen based on the current snow conditions and stability. Alternatives might be Mt.Rinddalshyrna, Mt.Midtstolshyrna, Mt.Stolhyrna. We might be able to ski all the way down to the Oppstryn lake and if the conditions are perfect, we might be able to enjoy 1600 vertical meters of skiing!

DAY 3 – Tuesday (alternative day)
After a long trip the day before, most prefer to spend this day for an alternative activity or a restday. It´s important for us that you and your friends, family or colleagues get good experiences in the mountains. “Skill-adjusted tours” is a term we have used in the Norwegian friluftsliv (outdoor life) for years and is central to the trip planning. On this trip you should be comfortable carrying a ski touring day-pack and skinning for several hours. There is likely to be mixed snow conditions on sun exposed or wind blown areas and you should be comfortable skiing through forested slopes. Our guides will adjust the itinerary according to conditions and the group’s wishes. This is a trip for those appreciating their creature comforts after a great day’s skiing.
