The Sognefjord region in winter

Skitouring Sogn Lyngen

For an active holiday or weekend, the region Sogn is the destination worth visiting. In the Norwegian fjord landscape, activity possibilities are endless. In winter, with easy access to the mountains and quiet surroundings; Sogndal, Jostedalen and Fjaerland has evolved to become a mecca for alpine ski touring.

The village of Sogndal has the comfort and convenience of tourists for years, and in addition to activities, the destination offers accommodation in different classes and for different interests.

From here you have access to a lot of different terrain. From the amazing glacier landscape around Jostedalsbreen to spectacular fjord landscape in Fjærland and the alpine area of western Jotunheimen with its famous mountain range Hurrungane. Sogndal has an airport and another option is to fly to Bergen from where there is a public ferry to Sogndal

In this area you find the biggest glacier on the mainland of Europe, Jostedalsbreen. The glacier gives the area a cold climate and is together with the humid costal climate the reason the area is known for deep powder skiing. A variety of microclimates meaning there’s nearly always a flank with fresh snow and this together with a long season is adding up to an unforgettable adventure in one of ski Norway’s best kept secrets…. until now!

All guides working in Breogfjell are qualified IFMGA Mountain Guides (callled “Tindevegledere” in Norwegian) or approved in Norway by Norsk Fjellsportforum. They also know the area like their own pocket. For ski mountaineering we only use IFMGA certified guides or aspirant guides.

This might be your skiing weekend!

It´s important for us that you and your friends, family or colleagues get good experiences in the mountains. “Skill-adjusted tours” is a term we have used in the Norwegian friluftsliv (outdoor life) for years and is central to the trip planning. On this trip you should be comfortable carrying a ski touring day-pack and skinning for several hours. There is likely to be mixed snow conditions on sun exposed or wind blown areas and you should be comfortable skiing through forested slopes. Our guides will adjust the itinerary according to conditions and the group’s wishes. This is a trip for those appreciating their creature comforts after a great day’s skiing.
